Sydney – Arthritis can be reversed health talks.
April 6 2004–Australian health writer and speaker Andrew Cavanagh says arthritis can often be relieved even reversed with simple therapies.
Mr Cavanagh will be giving a series of health talks to groups, organizations and corporations in Sydney in late May. He will speak on many subjects including arthritis.
โGrowing scientific evidence supports some quite simple, inexpensive therapies to reverse the symptoms of arthritis. From exercise to glucosamine even fish oil and gelatin a wealth of data already exists, some producing startling results.
โIn a Harvard study taking a heaping tablespoon of gelatine every day gave complete relief to twenty-eight out of twenty-nine patients with incurable, long term rheumatoid arthritis. More amazing, the complete relief from arthritis came in just ninety days.
โSupplementing with fish oil as an effective therapy to reverse arthritis is nothing new but few people do it. The first published paper describing fish oil’s remarkable ability to relieve the symptoms of arthritis appeared in 1775.
โGlucosamine is another supplement with a growing base of scientific evidence. A recent study found glucosamine could reduce the breakdown of joints in your knees.
โIn fact the study concluded glucosamine was the only agent proven to improve the symptoms and knee structure in women with osteoarthritis. So far no drug can make that claim.
โThen we come to exercise and lifestyle factors, my favourite subject. I deliver a talk on simple practical ways to improve your health through changes in diet, exercise, hygiene, sleep and emotional health.
โAll these can have an effect on arthritis, especially diet and exercise.
โMost people think cartilage is solid. Cartilage is actually quite soft, like a sponge. This spongy cartilage in your joints is squeezed whenever your joint moves.
โThis squeezing pushes out all the wastes and impurities. When the cartilage expands again it sucks in liquid and nutrients.
โMoving your affected joints with gentle exercise is absolutely essential to allow nutrients into the cartilage and to expel waste.
โJoints can decline rapidly in arthritis because sufferers stop moving them โ” a huge mistake. Movement of your joints is essential to keep the nutrients coming in and the wastes going out.
โDiet is another key in reversing arthritis. Through diet you can control the balance of a group of hormones called eicosanoids (eye-cah-suh-noyds).
โPoor balance of eicosanoids is implicated in the autoimmune response of rheumatoid arthritis. So improving this balance through diet and lifestyle changes can bring remarkable results with arthritis and many other diseases.
